Crude oil imports from West Africa enter the ports of Houston and Texas City via shuttle tankers that carry
appproximately 500,000 barrels of crude oil in their cargo tanks. These shuttle tankers take on
their crude cargo from supertankers approximately 60 miles offshore at the lightering area.

Only 15 % of the total amount of Nigerian imported crude oil entering
in the United States arrives in the Port of Houston. For example, over a
third
of Nigerian crude arrives at the Sunoco refineries on the east coast.
The second largest importer of Nigerian Crude is ConocoPhillips.
